Dear Residents and Friends:
As I begin the second year of my first term serving as the Mayor of this great town it has been my honor and pleasure to serve the residents of Bellmawr. It is hard to believe the first year has passed so quickly.
The most important issue as always facing the Municipality are the property taxes. Myself and the Members of Council worked diligently on the 2019 Municipal Budget and were able to have a zero increase for the local portion, the part of the pie that we have control over. We will continue to actively work to pursue new businesses to our municipality to help ease the tax burden for our residents, especially along the Black Horse Pike
In 2019 we faced many challenges with our flooding issues from the storm this past summer throughout the town, the water issue with the Princeton Avenue water tower along with the demolition process to remove the old water tower. However, I can report that with the flooding the Fire Department; Emergency Management and the municipal employees went above and beyond the call of duty from pumping basements to removing debris helping the residents in the best way possible. I am pleased to report the Borough actively pursued the necessary steps to correct the issue with the PFNA in the water system.
We authorized an Emergency purchase of a portable activated carbon filtration system and adopting a Bond Ordinance authorizing Various Improvements and the acquisition and installation of various equipment for the Water Utility System.
Along with the water improvements I am extremely happy with the reconstruction of various streets, the new dog park at Market Street and Bergen Avenue, Free Little Library sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and the Free Food Pantries at our three schools and Saint Joachim Parish. Soon you will see the new Borough shuttle bus on the road to transport our Seniors to Shop Rite and other destinations for their needs. Finally, but most important is our new Website for easy reference for our residents to obtain all the information you may need.
Together with my colleagues on Council, along with our dedicated Employees, Bellmawr is set for another exciting year.
In closing on behalf of myself and the Members of Council we would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family of our long time Solicitor Robert L. Messick, Esquire on Bob’s passing on August 11, 2019. We shall be forever grateful for Bob’s time, talent and dedication given to the Borough of Bellmawr these past 40 years.
Yours in Service,
Charles J. Sauter, III
