We regret to announce that our traditional 4th of July parade and the Summer Youth Program are cancelled due to the continuing restrictions on large gatherings and safety concerns regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Mayor and Council has reached this unfortunate conclusion that the celebration which attracts hundreds of residents and others cannot be held. This decision was made with the guidance from both the State and County Officials as well as similar decisions being made by neighboring communities. We are disappointed that we will not be able to celebrate the 4th of July with our Bellmawr families as we have in the past.

“We do not want to take any unnecessary chances with the health and well being of our residents as well as those involved in making the parade happen”. “We look forward to the future when we can all come together at a town wide community event” said Mayor Chuck Sauter.

We are equally regretful that the Summer Youth Program must be canceled. We have not received any guidance from the State on how to proceed with the program. In addition, funding from the Clean Communities Program has not been provided. With restrictions on the use on recreational facilities and social distancing requirements, sadly makes it impossible to run the program.

We hope for your understanding in these decisions and look forward to a healthier future.

In accordance with Governor Murphy’s Executive Order No. 130, the grace period for the payment of second-quarter property taxes has been extended until June 1, 2020. This extension was duly adopted at a special emergency meeting held on April 29, 2020 at 3:30 PM, by Resolution 04:107-20. Payments must be received by 4:00 PM on June 1, 2020 to avoid interest. (Interest will revert back to May 1st)

Mayor and Council sincerely appreciates the Governors Executive Order with which allows us to extend the grace period for the benefit of our residents to minimize and mitigate additional hardships or losses.

A Reminder and Request from Mayor and Council

Making the 2020 Census Count

I count, you count, we count. Most know what the census is, but many don’t understand the importance of the census. The Constitution requires a count of every person living in the U.S. every 10 years. There is more than $675 billion in federal funding to distribute. The money pays for roads, libraries, health clinics, school lunches, Head Start, Medicaid and much more. The allocation of funding is dependent on the number of residents counted in each jurisdiction. Consequently, everyone must be counted including babies, children, seniors and adults regardless of immigration status. We need to ensure that we receive our fair share of funding and representation for the next 10 years.

The census is important, safe and easy. You can respond online through a secure website, respond by telephone, or respond by mail. Please support our community and shape your future by responding today.

Due to the continuing pandemic and the resulting State of New Jersey restriction orders the following upcoming events have been canceled or postponed:

Day of Prayer at the Borough Hall (canceled)

Rabies Clinic (to be rescheduled),

Miss Bellmawr Pageant (to be rescheduled),

St. Joachim Carnival (canceled)



The Warren Avenue Water Treatment Facility (“Warren Avenue WTF”) has been completely off-line since October 15, 2019 and has remained closed since that date. On September 26, 2019, we received notice that the sample collected on August 13, 2019 showed that our system exceeded the standard, or maximum contaminant level (MCL), for PFNA. The New Jersey standard for PFNA is 0.013 pg/L. The average level of PFNA over the last year has been 0.019 pg/L.

Borough customers will continue receiving water treated at the Leaf and Bell Water Treatment Facility (“Leaf and Bell WTF”) and the Warren Avenue WTF will remain offline until the presence of PFNA at the Warren Avenue WTF has been brought into compliance with mandated NJDEP standards. The Leaf and Bell WTF has not detected the presence of PFNA and meets of NJDEP treatment standards.

On March 31, 2020, the Bellmawr Water Department completed the installation of appropriate upgrades to the Warren Avenue WTF in the form of an ion exchange resin filtration system to remove PFNA from the Warren Avenue WTF potable water supply.

Once the Warren Avenue WTF is fully tested and approved for service by the NJDEP, the ion exchange resin filtration system will remove PFNA from the potable water supply to be in compliance with NJDEP standards. Extensive testing will be completed before the Warren Avenue WTF is restored to normal operation. We reiterate the Warren Avenue WTF will remain off-line until the corrective treatment processes are in place and testing has verified compliance with NJDEP regulations.

There is nothing you need to do. You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. If you have a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant, or are elderly, you may be at increased risk and should seek advice from your health care providers about drinking this water.

Some people who drink water containing PFNA in excess of the MCL over many years could experience problems with their liver; kidney; immune system; or, in males, reproductive system. For females, drinking water containing PFNA in excess of the MCL over many years may cause developmental delays in a fetus and or infant.

 If you are looking to submit anything, it can be mailed to us or left in the drop off bin located at the main  entrance door of Borough Hall. Please be sure to note “Attn: construction” on it.
If submitting payment for permit, we will mail you your copies.

 All Certificate of Occupancy’s:
 We will accept the form with $100 payment and process a change of ownership only.
(Buyer will be accepting responsibility for any failed items upon inspection)

Once we are able to conduct inspections, please contact us and then upon passing, we will issue a full CO.  (CO Checklist available on our website.)

Annual rental invoices:

Payments can be mailed in or left in drop box. Deadline will also be extended. Please contact us in 2-3 weeks to see availability at that time.

To all residents and businesses in the Borough of Bellmawr:

In addition to previously posted information, we want to reassure you that our Emergency Services, including Police, Fire and EMS as well as our Department of Public Works have been working diligently with our Emergency Management and Government Officials to take all the necessary precautions in order for there to be no disruption of critical services.

We encourage you to patronize our local stores and food establishments when ordering take-outs and/ or shopping for supplies, as most all are being adversely impacted by the forced restrictions on services.

Bellmawr’s Emergency Management Officials continue to meet and develop operational guidelines to ensure the safety of our residents, businesses’, visitors and employees. Our business continuity plans are being reworked to limit the disruption to the Borough’s capability to provide essential services. 

Our frontline efforts continue to be aggressive in mitigating the potential for exposure and any spread. It is our best chance to ‘flatten the curve’ and mitigate the chance of rapid spread, so we can respond to this public health emergency.

In addition to the previous announcements which are posted to the web site Bulletin Boards regarding closures and restrictions, the Borough has added the additional following preventive measures that will take effect the end of business Monday March 16th until further notice:

  • The Borough Hall will be closed to the public and will operating with limited personnel, We will do our best to maintain as normal flow of business as possible. If you should have questions regarding operations please call 856-933-1313.
  • The construction office has ceased all inspections but will continue to process, review and issue permits for projects as they come in. Anyone selling or buying a home and needs a certificate of occupancy is asked to call the office at 856-933-1286 and we will ensure it gets taken care of.  
  • The shuttle bus will cease operation beginning Wednesday March 18th .

We encourage all borough related correspondence such as permits or payments of any kind be placed in envelopes and deposited in the drop box located outside the Borough Hall center door. Receipts for payments will be mailed after processing.

The situation continues to be fluent and changes hourly.

Bellmawr’s Emergency Management Officials have been actively meeting and developing operational guidelines to ensure the safety of our residents, businesses’, visitors and employees. Our business continuity plans are being reworked to limit the disruption to the Borough’s capability to provide essential services. As you are well aware, the situation is fluent and changes hourly. 

Public facilities run by the Borough will remain safe and are being actively cleansed and sanitized to ensure the health and safety of all visitors.  In recent days, all departments have implemented new guidance to janitorial and sanitation employees focused on keeping surfaces in high traffic areas clean with disinfectant solution, such as doorknobs, counter tops and handrails along with other high traffic public areas. We recommend that everyone practice commonsense hygiene, like washing hands routinely, staying home if you do not feel well, and keeping a six-foot distance from others.  Our frontline efforts right now must be to aggressively mitigate the potential for exposure and further spread. It is our best chance to ‘flatten the curve’ and mitigate the chance of rapid spread, so we can respond to this public health emergency.

The Borough is taking the following preventive measures that will take effect March 13th for 30 days:

  • The Community Building will be closed for all activities/meetings
  • The Recreation Center will be closed to all activities
  • The batting cages will be closed
  • All borough facilities; Hockey rinks, Bellmawr Baseball and Girls softball fields will be closed, the upcoming hockey tournament, baseball and softball parades have been postponed.
  • The annual Easter Egg Hunt and National Day of prayer have been cancelled
  • VFW 9563/Purple Eagles food truck festival has been cancelled
  • The shuttle bus will continue to operate at a modified schedule

The Borough Hall will remain open, visitors will be required to enter through the Lewis Avenue doors and will have to sign in for all business. (The handicap entrance will be available for those that require assistance) We encourage all borough related payments be placed in envelopes and deposited in the drop box located at the Borough Hall center door. Receipts for payments will be mailed after processing.
